๐ฑ The short version: We collect only what we need to run Nearmi. We never sell your data. We never show you ads. Your exact location is never stored or shared with other users.
1. Who we are
Nearmi is operated by Nearmi LLC, a Colorado limited liability company. We build neighborhood community software. If you have questions about this policy, contact us at hello@nearmiapp.com.
2. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information when you use Nearmi:
- Account information: Your email address, chosen handle, and authentication credentials (managed via Firebase Authentication).
- Location data: Your approximate location (city-level) when you grant permission, used solely to show you nearby content. Your precise GPS coordinates are used temporarily to calculate distances but are never stored or shared with other users.
- Content you create: Posts, comments, and messages you submit. Anonymous posts are stored without a publicly visible link to your identity.
- Device information: Device type, operating system, and push notification token for sending notifications you've opted into.
- Payment information: Subscription payments are processed by Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number โ only a Stripe customer ID.
- Usage data: Basic app usage information to diagnose bugs and improve performance.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Nearmi app and its features
- Show you posts, events, and content from people nearby
- Process your subscription payment and referral credits
- Send push notifications you've opted into
- Detect and prevent abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Respond to your support requests
- Improve and develop the Nearmi service
We do not use your data for advertising. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for their marketing purposes.
4. Anonymity and identity
Nearmi is anonymous by default. When you post or comment anonymously, your handle is not publicly shown. However, your account identity is always on file with Nearmi LLC. Anonymity is a privilege, not a shield โ we may use account identity information to enforce our Terms of Service, including permanently banning accounts that abuse anonymous features.
If you choose to reveal your identity to another user through the Identity Reveal feature, that disclosure is between you and that user. Nearmi facilitates but does not control what happens after a reveal.
5. Location privacy
We take location privacy seriously. Here is exactly how location works in Nearmi:
- Your precise GPS coordinates are used only to calculate distances from nearby content.
- Only your city-level location (e.g. "Denver, CO") is ever shown to other users.
- Your precise coordinates are never stored permanently on our servers.
- Your location is never shared with advertisers or third-party data brokers.
- You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings.
6. Data sharing
We share your information only with the following trusted service providers who help us operate Nearmi:
- Supabase โ database and authentication infrastructure
- Firebase (Google) โ authentication and push notifications
- Stripe โ payment processing
- Apple โ app distribution and Apple Sign-In
Each of these providers has their own privacy policy and is prohibited from using your data for their own marketing purposes under our agreements with them.
We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.
7. Data retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate business purposes such as fraud prevention.
Anonymous posts you've made will be permanently deleted or fully anonymized upon account deletion.
8. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and personal data
- Export your data in a portable format
- Opt out of push notifications at any time via device settings

9. Children's privacy
Nearmi is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at hello@nearmiapp.com.
10. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), encrypted storage, and Row Level Security on our database. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and notify active users via push notification or email for material changes. Your continued use of Nearmi after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
